Kaveri & Arkavathi river confluence
Sangama — 38 km from our farm.
Sangama is the sacred confluence where the Arkavathi river merges into the Kaveri, set against rocky riverbanks and forested gorges in Ramanagara district. The Sangameshwara temple stands watch on the bank, and the swirling waters below create a natural pool popular for dipping. Just 3.5 km upstream lies Mekedatu — the famous 'goat's leap' gorge where the Kaveri squeezes through a narrow granite chasm. Together they make one of the finest half-day escapes from Bangalore.
What to do
- Dip in the sacred Kaveri-Arkavathi confluence
- Sangameshwara temple darshan
- Short hike to Mekedatu gorge (3.5 km upstream)
- Spot crocodiles, otters and river birds from the banks
- Nature photography along the Kaveri's rocky shores
Best time to visit
October to March — monsoon waters recede, the river runs clear and cool, and the forest turns vivid green. Avoid June–September when the river floods. Weekday mornings are quietest.
