Muthathi is a quiet Kaveri riverbank village tucked inside the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary in Mandya district. Tall silver-oak forests meet the river's edge, coracle riders ferry guests across the wide, reed-fringed current, and the forest beyond hides elephant herds, leopards and hundreds of bird species. Unlike the more-visited Bheemeshwari nearby, Muthathi retains an unhurried, almost pristine character — making it a favourite for nature lovers and serious birders.

Best time to visit
October to February — the river is clear, migratory birds arrive, and the forest is lush without monsoon mud. Early mornings offer the best wildlife sightings. Avoid peak summer (April–May) when water levels drop sharply.
Getting here
From Vrishchika Farm Stay, head south on Kanakapura Road → Kanakapura town → Sathanur (18 km from Kanakapura) → Muthathi (another 18 km). Total ~65 km, allow 90–110 minutes. The last stretch is a forest road — a 4-wheel-drive vehicle is advisable after heavy rain.
Tips
No plastic bags or loud music are allowed inside the wildlife sanctuary. Carry binoculars for birdwatching. The coracle operators are local tribals — tip generously. There are no major food stalls; pack a meal.
